To mark the 250th birthday of democracy in America, Ottawa North Tri-Cities Action Committee (ONTRAC) will present a special event — “Your Vote, Michigan’s History”— on July 1 at 7 pm in Grand Haven’s Central Park Place auditorium.
This free event will feature a screening of the new documentary Frontier to Freedom: Wilderness, Revolution, and Michigan’s Path to Statehood, followed by a presentation on voting and election security by Ottawa County Clerk, Justin Roebuck.
Frontier to Freedom traces Michigan’s “evolution from a vast, untamed wilderness…to its emergence as the 26th state in 1837.” The filmmakers utilized historical images, expert interviews, and animation to highlight the region’s importance in America’s struggle for independence and to explore the “complex socio-political forces that shaped [Michigan’s] path to statehood.”
Representatives from nonpartisan organizations will be on hand before and after the program to offer information about voter registration and upcoming elections in our local communities.
